What Sponsoring a Child Does!!

Besrat Shibeshi is one of the few true orphan boys who receives support from Grace Baptist Church CarePoint. When he was 4 years old, Besrat’s mother and father passed away. There were no relatives to take care of him and his siblings. All the responsibilities were given to his oldest sister. We heard from her about what she felt during that hard time, “it was such a hard time to take responsibility since I was young.” When she started to think back about those difficult times, her eyes welled up with tears.
She worked as day laborer to provide her family daily bread. The other challenge was that she had to leave her younger brothers at home while she went to work. But there was no other option.
When the year came that Besrat should go to school, she couldn’t send him to the school, because it is mandatory to buy school uniforms and pay registration fees, provide various school supplies, and she was unable to do so. Finally she heard about the CarePoint and enrolled him. Now Besrat is one of the model students for the other children. He is a happy boy and is now 11 years old. He is thankful for all of your support. Recently, he is sponsors visited him; both he and his sister were so excited to meet them.

In this ministry there are many children who are thankful for your support. One of the model students is Asrat Tesfaye; his success is a witness to others. He is always thankful for what he benefits from the CarePoint.
He was born in another small town, Geregera. After his birth, his father moved to Kombolcha. When Asrat was five his father took him and his sister to Kombolcha but his mom stayed in Geregera, so the kids missed their mom. While they were living at Kombolcha, his father was unable to support Asrat’s education because he could not provide school materials, uniforms and other expenses. When his father heard about Grace Baptist CarePoint (GBC), he registered Asrat in the program. With the support of GBC, Asrat has been receiving basic needs and school materials.
Praise the Lord for the CarePoint’s discipleship; Asrat found salivation and was baptized. He is also an active participant in Sunday school. He sings songs and participates in a drama club. Now he has become a model for the other kids.
He is now in tenth grade and looking forward to take the national examination. He says, “I am so thankful for all of the support and the life changing service.”
Please pray for him as he looks forward to take the national exam so he may achieve the best results.

Supplies Delivered

A couple of weeks ago the following items were delivered to the Care Point:

They distributed 25 kg of cereal (teff) for each child this time. Even though the staff continues to communicate with government distributors to obtain the cooking oil, they were unable to find oil to purchase due to a shortage of it.

The field has requested prayer for the following:
  • be praying that we will be able to obtain oil.
  • A meeting regarding the license is scheduled for July.  Please be in prayer for the Grace Baptist Church leadership and the government officials in the meeting.

The discipler at Grace Baptist Church said the children have finished their exams and now on "summer break". Thank you for caring for the children at Grace Baptist Church!

We've had some questions about the uniforms.  In Ethiopia a school uniform is required to attend school.  Because of the cost of the uniform some families must choose between food and a new school uniform.  Our April Mission team saw that many children at our care point are wearing uniforms which are torn, tattered and/or too small.  The Father's Day fundraiser gave us a great start to providing new uniforms for the children but additional funds are needed.  If you  purchase a uniform your child WILL receive a new uniform.  If you are unable to provide financially for a uniform we will have another fundraiser so all the children (sponsored or not sponsored) will receive a new uniform in the fall.

We are currently raising funds for new school uniforms for the children.  A uniform is $17.50.  If you are interested in purchasing a uniform for your child or a child not sponsored please got to:

Click on the orange GIVE button on the far right side at the top of the home page.
Under “Gift Information,” click on Designated/Sponsorship: One Time Gift.  Enter the $ amount
Then (this is the important part) under the  “Reference Number” be sure to enter the Fund code which is “ET2116000”. Please designate Uniforms in the  Notes Field.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!
